2020-2019

February 7th, 2020: Interested in a career in telescope/instrumentation project management? Join our team at the Hilo branch of the IfA. We’re in the process of roboticizing the UH2.2-m telescope, building new AO systems and mirrors, and developing new detectors for NASA.

January 16th, 2020: Our latest paper using data from Robo-AO at @KittPeakNatObs was just accepted. Led by former IfA REU (’18), and now Harvard graduate student, @ClaireLamman, it describes our search for close companions to over 5,000 M-dwarf stars.

October 10th, 2019: Our forty-first Robo-AO scientific paper, by lead author Jessica Schonhut-Stasik, was just accepted by the Astrophysical Journal. It uses data from Robo-AO at Kitt Peak, as well as data from the Keck II adaptive optics system, and ESPaDOnS at CFHT.

August 8th, 2019: The UH88″ will be getting a new adaptive secondary mirror, and we’ll be using ‘imaka and Robo-AO-2 to help test the new technology

July 2nd, 2019: Our Robo-AO video paper on JoVE is now past 10,000 views! It’s great for anyone interested in how an adaptive optics system is actually operated.

January 14th, 2019: A big welcome to the newest member of the Robo-AO hui, Paul Barnes. Paul is a graduate of UH Hilo, an Akamai Workforce Initiative Alum, and is starting as an Adaptive Optics/Telescope Software Specialist. @UHIfA@UHHilo@IseeUcsc

January 2nd, 2019:Happy New Year! We’re looking forward to operating Robo-AO again on the UH88″ telescope in February. (Photo: S. Goebel)
