August 6th, 2026: Positive funding news from the NSF! Our first Robo-AO-2 science program has been funded. Led by PI Mike Lu, we’ll be using Robo-AO-2 to hunt for exoplanets and other substellar objects around thousands of nearby young stars. And, Robo-AO-2 will also be used to help integrate the adaptive secondary mirror on the UH2.2-m telescope with the SNIFS and STA instruments – improving their image quality. This project is led by PI Mark Chun. We’ll be looking for talented graduate students and postdocs to help with these projects; please contact the respective PIs if interested.
July, 2026: The Robo-AO-2 team is at SPIE Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation in Copenhagen, Denmark. Reed is giving a talk on robotic observing and Christoph is presenting posters on initial science and future work and laser-satellite deconfliction.


May, 2026: Our first scientific result with Robo-AO-2 is now in press at A&A. Robo-AO-2 was able to provide a critical astrometric measurement of the Aa-Ab components of the nearby quadruple star system µ Herculis.
